On April 1, 2021, we provided a summary of the D.C. Ban on Non-Compete Agreements Amendment Act of 2020 in our Non-Compete Round-Up. As we pointed out, the D.C. Act is one of the most restrictive bans on non-compete agreements in the country. Although we previously reported that the Act took effect on March 16 2021, by action of D.C. Mayor Bowser, it will now become applicable on April 1, 2022.
We will continue to track the D.C. Act as this extended time frame may allow for amendments to the Act to be passed in the interim. In the meantime, businesses should continue to prepare for the Act to become effective.
